Two detailers got tired of paying retail.
ITWRX is what happens when working detailers stop being the customer and start being the supplier. We mix what we use, in our shop, in Valley, Nebraska.
The chemistry behind detailing products is no secret to anyone who actually does this work. Once you've used enough of it, you stop reading the labels and start reading the formulators.
How it started.
We've been detailing cars in this shop for over a decade. The product side of the business has always been a frustration. The bottles we liked got reformulated, the ones we trusted got bought out, and the new releases were mostly the same chemistry in a different label with a higher price tag.
We started mixing our own batches because we needed a Ceramic Detail Spray that didn't streak in our bay's lighting. The formulation worked. So we mixed an All Purpose Cleaner because the one we'd been buying smelled like industrial degreaser. That worked too. We kept going until we had eight bottles we used every week and didn't want to buy from anyone else.
"We don't ship a product until we've used it on a customer car. If it doesn't make our work faster or cleaner, it never gets a label."
What we make.
Eight straightforward formulations, sized at 16 oz, mixed by hand in batches we can fulfill in our shop. We're not trying to be the biggest detailing brand. We're trying to be the one a working detailer reaches for first because it does what the bottle says without theatrics.
What we won't make.
We don't mix anything we wouldn't use ourselves. That means no all-in-one wash-and-wax (the chemistry compromises both), no ceramic coating in a $20 bottle (it's a service, not a product), no scented air-fresheners pretending to be cleaners, and no aggressive degreasers labeled as APCs. The eight bottles in our catalog are everything we make. There won't be a ninth until we find a job none of the existing eight handles.
Three rules we've stuck to.
Use it before we sell it.
Every formulation gets used on a customer car for at least 30 days before we put it in a bottle. If we wouldn't pay for it, we won't ask anyone else to either.
One bottle per job.
We don't sell three different car shampoos at three price points. We sell one car shampoo, the one we use, and we'll tell you when not to use it.
Mix in small batches.
We don't have warehouses. Every order ships from the same shop where we coat cars. The trade-off is occasionally being out of stock; the upside is we know what's in every bottle.
